Each question you answer with a "yes" is a warning signal of problem alcohol and/or drug use. Even one "yes" indicates you could have a problem with alcohol and/or drugs. If three or more questions describe your use of alcohol and drugs, you could be headed for trouble.
- Do you lose time from school or work due to the use of alcohol or drugs?
- Do you use alcohol or drugs to feel more comfortable?
- Do you use alcohol or drugs to build your self-confidence?
- Do you use alcohol or drugs when you are alone?
- Is your alcohol or drug use affecting your reputation?
- Do you use alcohol or drugs to escape from school, work, or home worries?
- Do you feel guilty or bummed out after the use of alcohol and drugs?
- Does it bother you if someone comments on how much you drink alcohol or use drugs?
- Do you feel more at ease in social situations when you are drinking or using drugs?
- Have you gotten into trouble at home, school or work because of your alcohol and/or drug use?
- Do you borrow money or "do without" other things to purchase alcohol and/or drugs?
- Do you feel a sense of power when you use alcohol or drugs?
- Have you lost friends since you have started to use alcohol and/or drugs?
- Do your friends use less alcohol and/or drugs than you do?
- Have you started to hang out with a heavy drinking and/or drug use crowd?
- Do you use alcohol or drugs until everything is gone?
- Do you wake up and wonder what happened the night before?
- Have you ever been busted or hospitalized due to your drinking and/or drug use?
- Do you "tune out" information about alcohol and drug abuse?
- Do you think you have a problem with alcohol and/or other drugs?
